To measure for the correct diffuser size, follow these steps:
Measure the Duct Opening (Neck Size):
- Measure the width and height of the duct opening where the diffuser will be installed. This is the neck size of the diffuser. It’s important to measure accurately, as the diffuser needs to fit snugly in the opening.
Determine the Face Size:
- The face size of the diffuser will be larger than the neck size. It is typically the size that will be visible after installation. For instance, a 10"x6" diffuser will have a neck size of 9 7/8" x 5 15/16" and a face size of approximately 11 11/16" x 7 5/8".
Allow for Clearance:
- Ensure there is enough clearance for proper installation. The flange of the diffuser should be able to sit flush with the wall or ceiling, and there should be enough room for securing the screws.
Check Airflow Requirements:
- Consider the airflow needs of the space. The size of the diffuser will affect how much air it can handle. Larger diffusers can accommodate higher CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute).
